Pei is one the most renowned architects in the entire world. His architecture combines beauty with function and magnificence is what makes him famous. In 1954, Ieoh Ming Pi was made a citizen in the United States. He later founded his own firm, I.M. Pei & Associates. Pei Cobb Freed & Partners has been the name of this firm. It designed many projects. Pei Cobb Freed & Partners designed Syracuse's Everson Museum of Art. The company also constructed the Luce Memorial Chapel in Taiwan.

Ieoh Ming Pei has a reputation for his bold and intricate geometric designs. He was awarded in 1983 the Pritzker Prize. It is sometimes called the Nobel Prize for architecture. In addition to his prize, he received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum. He built a remarkable collection of buildings in the 1990s.
